A CSCS card shows that the holder is considered to be competent at his/her job, has passed a health and safety test and it also details any relevant certificate/qualifications.

Registering for an NVQ with CASL will enable you to apply for a temporary CSCS card which will be valid for three years whilst the NVQ/SVQ is being achieved (please note, the card cannot be renewed once it has expired).

Achieving the NVQ will enable you to apply for a five year (renewable) card:

• A GOLD CSCS card is available for supervisor and technician occupations – applicable following achievement of an NVQ/SVQ at Level 3 in a relevant occupation.
• A BLACK CSCS card is available for manager occupations – applicable following achievement of an NVQ/SVQ at Level 4 or 5 in a relevant occupation.

Construction Site Supervisors and Managers with considerable experience who have an incorrect or no CSCS card at present and for whom NVQ/SVQ routes are not realistic options may consider the CSCS Profiled Route.
